Did You Know?
  • On a typical Friday or Saturday night, one of every seven drivers is alcohol/drug impaired.
  • 33% of 9th graders report having ridden in a car driven by someone who had been drinking alcohol.
  • 40% of kids who start drinking before the age of 15 will become alcoholics at some point in their lives.
  • If the onset of drinking is delayed by 5 years, a child’s risk of a serious alcohol problem is cut in half.
  • Alcohol is a key factor in 33% of suicides and 41% of traffic deaths.
 

Some STOP (Students Taking on Prevention Activities Include):

  • Staging a car crash scene to demonstrate the potential destructiveness of drinking and driving.
  • School assemblies, featuring guest speakers relating personal stories illustrating the different aspects of destructive drinking.
  • Fun and Sober Dances
  • Symposium participation to get information to students as well as the opportunity to make a point through activities.
  • Middle school Newsletter entries to get information out to parents.
  • Delivery of information to community businesses regarding underage drinking.
  • Teen Parties Exposed, a look at teen parties and the dangers associated with alcohol and other drug use.
