PARTNERSHIP OF
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
--TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION
COUNCIL--
The teenage years should
be filled with possibilities and opportunities, not diapers and midnight
feedings. Most teens agree. In fact, according to the 2005
Douglas County Youth Risk Behavior Survey, only 39.2% of high-schoolers
report that they have had sex. It's okay to delay!
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL
Children of teen
mothers are more likely to be born prematurely, be at low birth weight,
and have a disability.
Only 41% of teen
mothers complete high school.
Only 20% of fathers
of children born to teen mothers marry the mother. The other 80% pay
less than $800 a year in child support.
WHAT ADVICE DO TEENS
HAVE FOR OTHER TEENS?
You may think it
could happen to you, but if you don't protect yourself, it can. Be
prepared and have a plan.
You are in charge of
your own life. Don't let anyone pressure you.
You can always say
no, even if you said yes before.
Talk to your
parents. Sometimes they do know what they are talking about.
